Blessing Sacks
Heidi’s Kids’ Blessing Sack Program provides nutritious, easy-to-eat meals and snacks for children facing food insecurity—especially those who may not have consistent access to food outside of school hours. Each Blessing Sack is thoughtfully packed with kid-friendly items that ensure children have the nourishment they need to learn, grow, and thrive. In Jefferson County, approximately 22.2% of children, that’s about 31,610 children under age 18, experience food insecurity (UAB St. Vincent's). In other words, more than one in five children in Jefferson County don’t always know where their next meal is coming from. By starting with the child, we address food insecurity at its roots, because when a child’s basic needs are met, it positively impacts their overall well-being, school performance, and sense of stability. The Blessing Sack Program not only fills empty stomachs but also reminds each child that they are cared for and supported by their community.
